De Roemeense kansspelindustrie zet groeiende trend voort

The local industry of video game developers in Romania is among the most performing in the current international context, continuing a growing trend, according to the most recent information of the Association of Video Game Developers in Romania - RGDA. Companies in the sector in Romania have currently reached a cumulative turnover of over 200 million USD. There are over 100 companies and over 6000 people working in the industry at the moment, which places Romania within the top 10 in Europe. The industry in Romania features an interesting mix of top multinational companies with a significant presence of independent, active and growing local studios. The gaming industry is concentrated around Bucharest, the capital city, home of no less than 77% of the studios, including the big ones which have the largest number of employees and which generate the highest incomes. Thanks to the quality of the university graduates and the openness to the digital economy, during the last couple of years, Cluj-Napoca (North-West Romania) and Timișoara (West Romania) have attracted a growing number of gaming companies, representing 17,6% and respectively 4% of the market.

The sales of video games in Romania have expanded from year to year, and figures are expected to accelerate further amid the lockdown caused by the pandemic. According to Euromonitor the sales of video games in the country in 2020 could grow by 11% compared with 2019.
