Meet Eva, Lionel and Babette, three new Economic Representatives of Flanders

In the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, FIT is welcoming three new Economic Representatives of Flanders. As soon as it is once again safe to travel, Eva Verstraelen, Lionel Orens and Babette Desfossez will be helping you take your business to new international heights from their respective posts in Guangzhou (China), Seoul (South Korea) and New Delhi (India). For now, they are being onboarded from home – so we thought we’d let them introduce themselves from their home offices.

Eva Verstraelen, Economic Representative of Flanders in Guangzhou (China)

When it comes to representing Flanders on an international playing field, Eva Verstraelen knows what she’s doing. As a former diplomat, she was stationed in Beijing, Jakarta, Islamabad, Manilla and Jerusalem – among other places.

“I’m looking forward to using my international experiences and unique skillset to help Chinese businesses set up activities in Flanders,” states Eva. “Our strategic location in Europe offers them a real advantage. Likewise, I will be using my network as well to support Flanders-based companies that are looking to enter the Chinese market.”

Lionel Orens, Economic Representative of Flanders in Seoul (South Korea)

As a former corporate banker with over 20 years of experience, Lionel knows a thing or two about supporting successful businesses. Above all, he values the human connection.

“People won’t always remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel,” he says. “That’s why I want to build strong relationships and provide valuable support to both Flanders-based companies looking to set up export activities to South Korea and South Korean businesses that are looking to expand internationally.”

Babette Desfossez, Economic Representative of Flanders in New Delhi (India)

Because of her previous job as a customs attaché, Babette is the only new Economic Representative of Flanders who is already stationed abroad, more specifically in New Delhi.

“The digital onboarding process was a unique experience, but it went very smoothly. In fact, I was impressed by FIT’s modern way of working and informal, no-nonsense atmosphere. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in person and working together to help Indian businesses find their way to Flanders and Europe, as well as introducing Indian buyers to Flanders’ products and services,” she concludes.

Eva, Lionel and Babette will join our network of 170+ colleagues working abroad, providing tailored services and custom advice to Flanders-based companies looking to expand abroad and delivering specialized set up and expansion support for international business in Flanders.
