The Egyptian delegation was welcomed today by Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT). Together with regional partners Awex and Hub.Brussels, FIT hosted this event in the Errera House in Brussels.

This Egyptian visit was a natural consequence of the foreign visit of FIT to Egypt in October 2022 and the Egyptian visit to Brussels in January last year. The economic bonds between Flanders and Egypt are clearly very strong. In 2023 – in the period up until October – Flanders exported for the amount of 1,242.43 million euros to Egypt, and in return imported for the amount of 373.58 million euros from Egypt to Flanders. If we look at the ranking of export markets for Flanders, Egypt is ranked in the 39th position with a contribution of 0.32% of the Flemish export.

Traditionally, Egypt has many opportunities to offer within several strong sectors in Flanders: logistics and transport, energy, infrastructure and construction. In the construction sector, there is a very strong connection between Belgium and Egypt, thanks to the prestige project of the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum. This was built by Besix. And almost ten years ago, Jan De Nul was responsible for the dredging work of the Suez Canal.

This visit was the perfect opportunity for the Egyptian delegation to emphasize their investment advantages and for Flanders to showcase important entrepreneurs in Flanders. All of which, took place in the presence of the minister-president of Flanders.
