Waterleau Acquires Ecovation and Krofta

WATERLEAU, the Belgian technology provider offering solutions for water, air, waste treatment and energy recovery, has announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the anaerobic biological wastewater treatment plant design and build business of ECOVATION and acquired the membership interests of KROFTA Technologies from Ecolab (NYSE:ECL). With the acquisition, WATERLEAU establishes a strong footprint for the development of its business in the North American market.

ECOVATION is a key-player in water and wastewater treatment offering Design and Build solutions to North American customers in various industries. ECOVATION's technology portfolio includes turn-key solutions for aerobic as well as anaerobic biological wastewater treatment, integrating the complete treatment process. Access to WATERLEAU's portfolio of environmental technologies and services will allow ECOVATION, operating from Victor NY, to expand its range of treatment solutions and strengthen its position on the North American market.

KROFTA Technologies, founded by Dr. Krofta in 1953 and based in Dalton MA, designs and supplies Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) clarifiers for wastewater treatment. KROFTA is a world leader in DAF technology with more than 3,500 installations running successfully over the world. WATERLEAU sees great opportunity in marketing the renowned KROFTA designs to its global customer base.

The KROFTA and ECOVATION teams will maintain their good working relationship with the ECOLAB organization and continue to support their customers.

Bart Goedseels, CEO of Waterleau comments: "This acquisition is a new milestone in the expansion of the WATERLEAU GROUP after the recent acquisition of IBH Waste-to-Energy Engineering Consultants and KARY-PLANQUA, the Germany based water, wastewater and biomass treatment solutions provider. Through a combination of organic growth and multiple acquisitions in recent years, WATERLEAU has evolved into a global player with a portfolio of complementary and proprietary technology in all fields of environmental protection: water, air, waste treatment and energy recovery."

In its latest acquisition, WATERLEAU GROUP is joined by BMI-SBI, the Belgian semi-public investment company co-financing and supporting this transaction.
