Volvo (SE) builds new battery assembly line in Ghent

Swedish car manufacturer Volvo, owned by the Chinese Geely group, is installing a new assembly line at its Ghent port site. The new line will be used for the assembly of 'battery packs' for the new electric Volvo XC40 that will be launched in 2020.

Port site expansion

Volvo drastically increases the added value of their Ghent site by producing not only cars, but battery modules as well. In order to build the new assembly line, the Ghent Port Authority grants Volvo 80.000 m² of terrain to add to their existing site. The exact amount that was invested and how many extra jobs this will provide remains unclear.
