VF Corporation takes over Kipling

The US company VF Corporation has acquired substantially all the assets of the Antwerp-based Kipling Belgium, a maker of upscale bags, packs and accessories primarily for women, the company has announced.

Kipling brand products include bags, backpacks and stationery. Under license, other Kipling brand categories include eyewear, footwear, home products, jewelry and watches. The company has 17 owned retail stores throughout Belgium, Holland and the UK and approximately 120 shops managed through distributors, primarily in Asia. Kipling brand products are also featured in dedicated shops in major upper tier department and specialty stores. Its sales in 2003 were approximately $US69 million.

VF Corporation is described as the world's largest apparel company and a leader in jeanswear, intimate apparel, sportswear, workwear and daypacks. Its principal brands include Lee, Wrangler, Vanity Fair, The North Face and Lee Sport.
