TransferWise (UK) plans to open new office in Brussels

To ensure the continuity of its service offering in case of a ‘no deal’ Brexit scenario: that’s why international money transfer company and fintech unicorn TransferWise has applied for a new license in Brussels—the capital of both Belgium and Flanders.

Gateway to post-Brexit Europe

Brussels is set to become TransferWise’s 10th location around the globe and will serve as a gateway to post-Brexit Europe. “Brussels is situated at the very heart of all things EU,” says Kristo Käärmann, CEO and co-founder of TransferWise. “By setting up an office in the city, we will be able to continue providing great services to our customers around the globe, no matter the outcome of the Brexit negotiations.”

Expertise that makes a difference

“What’s more,” the CEO goes on to say, “the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) greatly impressed us with its expertise in the e-money and payments sector. We are confident that the NBB will prove to be a valuable and productive partner that’s not just a strong and trusted regulator, but also open to innovation.”

To give its Brussels office a flying start, TransferWise is already planning to hire a small and agile team of local employees.
