Ecover was founded in 1979. What all started with a phosphate-free washing powder sold solely in Belgium evolved into an internationally active company producing a wide range of products. Since 1992, Ecover has been in Danish hands and in 2012 it joined forces with Method, an important competitor from the US. Together, they operated under the name ‘People against Dirty’. The aim of the collaboration was to strengthen joint efforts to enter overseas markets. So, together with Ecover, SC Johnson is also acquiring Method.

SC Johnson (US) acquires Ecover (Flanders)
Flanders-based producer of ecologically friendly cleaning products Ecover was bought by the American company SC Johnson, manufacturer of household cleaning supplies and other consumer chemicals.
“Method and Ecover both have a strong tradition of innovation and delivering on consumers’ needs. They are a great complement to SC Johnson’s trusted lineup of iconic brands,” said Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. With this acquisition, SC Johnson wants to attract more young consumers, since they are typically more interested in products that are less harmful for the environment.
