Posios (Flanders) merges with Canadian Lightspeed

Posios, based in Ghent (Flanders), is conquering the world with its mobile cash register system for the hotel and catering industry. Now, the start-up joins forces with the Canadian company Lightspeed, which makes a similar product for retailers.

Posios changes its name to Lightspeed Restaurant. Thanks to the merger, Ghent becomes the European headquarters for Lightspeed. Meanwhile, the catering app is able to reach the 600,000 bars and restaurants in the US. The app is a mobile terminal that sends orders to the bar or kitchen and prints the receipt right away. But it can also handle payments, register orders and reservations, keep track of working hours and employee productivity, and analyze sales numbers per dish, moment or table.
Lightspeed once started as an app for the Apple stores. It currently has 120,000 stores under contract, mostly clothing, technology, bike and pet stores. The company handle up to USD 7.8 billion worth of transactions each year. Thanks to the merger, Lightspeed will be able to add another USD 400 million to that figure. (reported by De Tijd newspaper)
