Panalpina upgrades its warehouse at the Port of Antwerp

While air freight used to be regarded as the most efficient way to ship high-value goods, pharmaceutical companies today are shifting to ocean freight. To support them in optimizing their logistics chains, Panalpina transformed its warehouse at the Port of Antwerp into a new Pharma Center.

Room to grow

The warehouse comprises two separate areas where temperature-sensitive goods can either be kept and monitored at between 15°C and 25°C, or between 2°C and 8°C. Should demand pick up as anticipated, the facility, which measures almost 1,600 m2 in size, can be immediately extended by more than 10,000 m2. Panalpina has already developed supporting plans and agreements with its partner Van Wellen Project Management.

In line with strict regulations

By the second quarter of 2017, Belgium’s federal agency for medicines and health products (FAMHP) will award the Panalpina Pharma Center with a Good Distribution Practice (GDP) license – a regulation all importers and distributors of medicine have to comply with.

Panalpina is turning its warehouse into a GDP certified pharma center (bottom right).
