Established in 1972, Nectar Group is celebrating a jubilee year in 2022. Coinciding with its 50th anniversary, the company will be opening its first operational subsidiary on the European mainland. At the Port of Ostend, the Group will occupy a site in the outer port, where it will invest in equipment, including a mobile harbor crane. Both parties signed a cooperation agreement to seal the deal. Operations are likely to start in the summer of 2022.

For the Port of Ostend, the arrival of Nectar Group means an expansion of the range of cargo handlers in the port. According to Charlotte Verkeyn, Chair of the Port of Ostend, the new project proves that the port is an excellent breeding ground for both SMEs and international players. She is confident employment in the city of Ostend will benefit as well.

In the first phase, Nectar Group will focus on lift-on/lift-off activities primarily related to breakbulk cargo, one of the port’s pilar activities. To this end, the Port of Ostend guarantees a competitive service for loading and unloading vessels. The arrival of an additional established operator such as Nectar Group will only contribute to the port’s ambition to increase maritime traffic.
Nectar Group operates and manages bulk and breakbulk terminals around the world. With 165 different locations in 75 countries, the group handles approximately 7 million tonnes of cargo per year. In addition to that, they offer a range of value-adding solutions for handling bulk cargo. The company employs over 350 people globally.
