Joint venture offers heavy-lift sea services

Atlas, a new joint-venture company, has harnessed the experience and expertise of an Antwerp stevedoring company and a heavy-lift specialist in order to offer heavy-lift and special-cargo sea transport services through the Port of Antwerp.

The new company, a 50-50 operation with NHS and Kranen Michielsens, is looking to expand the heavy-lift capabilities of the port and offer the service to companies around northern Europe and even as far south as Italy.

Heavy-lift can range, for example, from entire factories through to factory components, many of which require specialized ships.
