IMEC inaugurates nano-electronics lab

IMEC, Europe's largest independent microelectronics and nanotechnology research center, has inaugurated a new nano-electronics laboratory next to its headquarters at Leuven, Flanders.

The new 84 million euro facility will enable IMEC to maintain its leading research role in nano-scaled technologies. The working area of 16,280 square meters includes a plenum and a 3,200 square meter clean-room suitable for full 300 mm wafer processing.

At the inauguration ceremony, IMEC also announced a rise of 6% in revenues from 2003 contract research to a total of some 111 million euro. Some 54% derived from international industry, 26% from Flemish businesses and the remainder from the European Commission, ESA and local government projects. This year the organization’s budget is expected to rise to around 160 million euro.
