How Daikin takes heat pumps to the next level in Flanders

Daikin Europe – the European branch of the Japanese namesake group specializing in ventilation, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration – is making yet another major investment in Flanders. To meet the rising demand for heat pumps, the company is starting up a new production line at its Ostend-based headquarters.

Heat pump it up

With the new line, Daikin Europe will more than double its production capacity for heat pumps by the summer of 2023. The announcement of this investment project came just a few weeks after the company inaugurated another heat pump production line in Ostend, which had already doubled capacity. 

Together, the two new lines represent a total investment of EUR 23 million. According to Daikin Europe, demand for heat pumps is increasing rapidly in Europe because various governments are strongly promoting the heating technology. 

Accelerator

The new production lines are far from Daikin Europe’s only commitment to taking heat pumps to the next level in Flanders – and beyond. In fact, the announcement of the new investment coincided with Daikin Europe’s kick-off for the construction of a brand-new innovation center in Ghent (Flanders) where it will bring together all its R&D activities on heat pump heating and cooling technology for the EMEA region. 

A crucial asset at the Ghent center will be the technical building with 22 test rooms. There, Daikin Europe can simulate operation and efficiency under extreme climate conditions. Moreover, in its central double EMC test room, the company can test devices for electromagnetic interference. 

Ghent, in Flanders, will be a real accelerator for technological development and innovation for the next century.
