Hercules expands chemical operations

Hercules Incorporated, the Delaware-based specialty chemicals firm, is investing $69 million to expand its methyl cellulose production facilities in Doel in Flanders.

The new facility, slated to open in early 2001, will replace one of the firm's existing three plants in Doel and will add 8,000 metric tons per year to its current capacity of 17,000 metric tons. Mr. Ger Meeuwissen, Director of Manufacturing, said that the company's operations in Flanders benefit from the availability of highly educated people, a flexible and multifunctional workforce, and a central location within Europe.
