German group GBA acquires food lab Lavetan (Flanders)

Lavetan, Flanders’ largest food laboratory, was acquired by German laboratory group GBA. According to Lavetan assistant laboratory director Raf Peeters, the German group has plans for a further investment of EUR 1 million in Lavetan next year. This is GBA’s first acquisition outside of Germany.

Gateway to the Benelux market

“GBA was interested in Lavetan because of our know-how, high-level equipment,  processes and professionalism,” Raf explains. The German group intends to use Lavetan to enter the Benelux market in the field of food analysis. To that end, there are plans to expand the site and recruit new employees. Currently, 92 people work at Lavetan.

Access to a chemical department

GBA was keen on Lavetan's knowledge and equipment, but Raf also sees many advantages for Lavetan itself. "We have a microbiological and a serological department, but no chemical department. For this, we had to use external labs up until now. As a partner of GBA, we will now be able to handle this in-house.”
