From Ford site to 250,000 m² state-of-the-art logistics hub

Flanders’ government and the corporate consortium Genk Green Logistics agreed on a price for zone B of the former Ford sites: EUR 120 million. By 2020, it will house the first warehouse of the future logistics hub for e-commerce in Flanders.

1,500 new jobs

The EUR 120 million investment project should provide 1,500 new jobs with Genk Green Logistics and transport company H.Essers. In zone C, along the Albert Canal, a large container terminal for inland shipping will be built. Genk Green Logistics announced its plans for the site last year.

Several initiatives

It’s the mix of initiatives that makes the region so attractive for companies. Investment holding LRM invests heavily in the region, supporting the construction of new Center Parcs holiday homes in Terhills and welcoming the first storage place for Tesla batteries in Belgium.

A stone's throw away at the Thor science park in Waterschei, experts from Vito, imec and Energyville develop green energy applications. And on the Corda research campus in Hasselt, more than 200 high-tech companies are housed, accounting for 3,500 highly skilled jobs.
