Flanders’ food industry commits to boosting innovation

Philippe Muyters, Flanders’ Minister for Innovation, announced innovation platform Flanders’ FOOD will play a central role in the newly founded food sector spearhead cluster. Industry federation FEVIA is confident that this will enable the region’s food industry to stay at the head of the table.

Investing in added value through innovation

“With this spearhead cluster, we’re combining the innovative strengths of our companies and knowledge centers to reinforce our competitiveness and consolidate our reputation as world leader in the food industry,” Minister Muyters comments.

Jan Vander Stichele, president of FEVIA Vlaanderen and Flanders’ FOOD, reacts enthusiastically: “This collaboration will boost further investments in innovation and add value to our products.”

Combining research and hands-on expertise

Such a spearhead cluster is a collaboration between companies, research facilities and the government. Together, they are developing a long-term strategy while improving competitiveness on short notice. Flanders has four other spearhead clusters for the chemistry, sustainable materials, energy and logistics sectors.
