A total of 48,040 solar panels will be installed on the roof of the Venlo e-commerce logistics campus in the Netherlands. The installation should be operational in June 2020. It covers an area of 12.6 hectares – the equivalent of 20 soccer fields.
The entire installation will produce the same amount of electricity needed to supply 4,500 families and should make it possible to emit 12,000 tons less of CO2 each year. In practice, the panels will provide enough energy to cover the local consumption of the warehouses and offices on the site. The remainder can be sent to other consumers in the area.
The project is part of Heylen Warehouses’ ambition to invest in renewable energy and thus create added value for customers who rent logistics space. Philippe Deschilder, CEO of Heylen Warehouses: “Heylen Warehouses has already invested over EUR 60 million in renewable energy solutions in both the Netherlands and Flanders. We will continue to do so in the future.”
