Quartes is an important local player in the supply of compound feed to livestock farmers. The Flanders-based company, which operates factories in Roeselare, Hasselt and Deinze, will become part of the Agrifirm cooperative, which was already active in the Netherlands and Belgium, with branches in Drongen and Grobbendonk. “The cooperation offers advantages for our customers, traders and employees,” comments Quartes director Frederic Boone. “The head office of the Belgian activities will be in Deinze.”

Quartes is just one of the companies of the Heluca holding, which generated a consolidated turnover of EUR 651 million and a group profit of EUR 13.8 million last year. The Versele family behind Quartes owns the Versele-Laga pet food firm, which focuses on the non-professional market. This concerns food for pets such as dogs and cats, but also horses and chickens. Last year, that division acquired a company in the US.
