Evonik (GER) expands fumed silica production in Flanders

Evonik, a German-owned world-leading specialty chemicals company, plans to expand its fumed silica production facilities in Antwerp (Flanders). The new complex should be operational in the summer of 2019.

Ideal framework conditions

Global demand for fumed silica shows growth rates exceeding 4%. “By expanding in Antwerp, we are responding to this growing demand,” explains Johannes Ohmer, member of the Board of Management of Evonik Resource Efficiency GmbH. Its central location in Europe and proximity to the modern Port of Antwerp are major assets and played a key role in the decision.

Wide-ranging applications

Typical applications of the specialty silica produced at the Evonik plant include coatings and paints, modern adhesive systems, transparent silicones as well as non-flammable high-performance insulation materials.
