Eastman (US) funnels EUR 3 million into R&D in Flanders

Chemical firm Eastman has funneled EUR 3 million into its new research and innovation center located in Zwijnaarde, Flanders. There, the American company develops products for the entire European market.

Environmentally friendly research

The investment fits into Eastman’s strategy of providing added value to the environment and society. Its new research center in Flanders focuses on developing novel paints and coatings for the automotive industry. It also develops Triten™, an innovative and phthalate-free plastic. Additionally, the company will conduct new research on crop protection.

Continued investment

Eastman’s investment mainly went towards specific lab and application equipment. Eastman will continue building onto this initial investment of EUR 3 million by adding half a million each year on average. Currently, 20 people work in the research center. Eastman intends to double this number over the next 5 years, recruiting from the pool of Flanders’ talented and highly skilled workforce.
