Dixons to open stores in Flanders, Belgium

The Dutch electronics retailer Dixons is to open stores in Flanders, with the first two scheduled for Antwerp and Mechelen after the summer.

A subsidiary of Vendex KBB, Dixons has 134 shops in the Netherlands and is a Dutch market leader in PCs, printers, CD-ROM software, game computers, photography and portable audio. The company is not related to the British listed company of the same name – the two split some 30 years ago, with the Dutch Dixons retaining rights in the Benelux companies.

Peter Van Bakkum, spokesman for Vendex KBB, said the Belgian Dixons shops would be copies of their Dutch counterparts. The goods, size and price strategy would, in the beginning, be the same as those in the Netherlands, he added.

Vendex KBB also owns the Hema, Vroom & Dreesmann, Claudia Sträter and Hunkemoller chains.
