Daikin invests in group reference R&D center in Flanders
Daikin Europe, the European branch of the Japanese ventilation specialist, is investing EUR 840 million over the next five years. An important part will go to its European HQ in Ostend (Flanders) and to a brand-new R&D center in Ghent. With this investment, Daikin Europe hopes to create 4,000 jobs across Europe – including hundreds in Flanders. This project only adds to Daikin’s track record in Flanders, which is characterized by continuous investments since 1972.
R&D, capacity and digitalization
The investment will be used to grow Daikin’s European R&D centers, as well as its capacity for production, sales, and customer service, and a further digitalization of its business model. By 2025, Daikin Europe is aiming for EUR 5.7 billion in sales – last year, the company reached EUR 3.4 billion.
“Daikin Europe chose Ghent as the location for its R&D center because of our highly-skilled people and the collaboration with Ghent University.”
Sofie Sap, press officer at Daikin Europe
World-leading R&D center
To achieve its goal, Daikin Europe is building an R&D center in Ghent, Flanders, that will become the Japanese group's global reference center for heat pump and refrigeration technology.
“The start-up in Ghent is planned for 2024 and will cost EUR 140 million to build,” says Daikin Europe’s press officer Sofie Sap. “By then, we are looking for 135 different profiles to become our new colleagues – such as product development engineers and software engineers.”
Daikin Europe chose Ghent as the location for its center of excellence due to the proximity of Ghent University, with whom they will be working closely.
Job openings all over Flanders
Besides the R&D center, Daikin Europe has several other job openings as well. “For our sites all over Flanders – from Ostend to Herentals – we are still looking for additional employees, including sales and technical profiles,” Sofie Sap concludes.
