The BlueBird project is currently in its research phase and seeks to spur companies with different backgrounds to action to help shape the sustainable and innovative future of the port and maritime manufacturing industry.
We are specifically looking for innovation-driven activity on renewable energy, the circular economy, mobility, logistics and transshipment.
These companies include not only tech enterprises focused on digitization, data, community & security, but also those businesses active in the maritime manufacturing industry and those that specialize in recruitment, training or business support services.
The overall goal of BlueBird is to lend a hand in Ghent’s ambitions of becoming the technology capital of Europe. At the same time, the project is surfing the internationalization wave initiated by North Sea Port Ghent, which has crystallized its ambitions in a strategic plan called ‘Connect 2025’.
By the end of 2022, we should have a clearer view of the definitive layout of the site, so we can then apply for the permit next year. If all goes according to plan, the first shovel will go into the ground in 2025.
