China’s 1st Europe-built car will be made in Flanders

Starting late next year, Volvo Car Group will produce cars for its Lynk & Co brand at the Volvo plant in Ghent. Lynk & Co is co-owned by Volvo Cars’ owner Zhejiang Geely holding Group (China) and its carmakers Volvo and Geely Auto. Sales of Lynk & Co cars began in China last year, with Europe set to follow in 2019.

Volvo Car Group has announced the production of Lynk & Co cars at its plant in Ghent, Flanders.

Volume, efficiency, employment

The production of Lynk & Co helps secure production volumes, cost efficiency and employment at Volvo Cars’ Ghent-based plant. The Ghent facility, one of Volvo’s two European plants, employs around 5,000 people.

“We see big potential for this new brand entering the European market,” says Volvo Cars chief executive Hakan Samuelsson in a statement. “We are happy that we can give Lynk & Co the support of Volvo’s technological and industrial expertise.”
