Campina to invest 22 million euro in Aalter dairy processing plant
Aalter will be producing even more dairy products belonging to the Stassano, Yazoo and Campina brands. These will be transferred from Sleidinge to Aalter. Sleidinge still uses a non-aseptic method to make them. 'New aseptic lines will be added at Aalter,' explains Erik de Cock, director of Campina Belgium. 'Aseptic procedures result in superior nutritional properties and make it possible to use more modern packaging. The investment will also increase our efficiency.'
Campina's headquarters in Zaltbommel in the Netherlands recently approved the 22-million euro investment. The Belgian subsidiary is using the money to extend its facilities in Aalter, install new filling lines and buy machines for blowing bottles out of polyethylene. Part of the money is being spent on new packaging techniques.
Campina is currently spending 10 million euro in Aalter on a new line that delivers PET packaging and fills dairy products using an aseptic method. 'As far as we know, this is a unique investment by European standards.' The new line will become operational in the summer. 'As a result of this investment, we will be able to produce dairy products with a life of several months.' Campina will use the new installation for the brands Stassano, Yazoo, Campina and Yogho Yogho.
