The new plant will be a modern, CO2-neutral plant specializing in e-mobility. “The current factory is outdated. We need to thoroughly modernize the production of our electric buses,” says factory director Peter Wouters. The entire production line will be moved to the new site.

The factory was named the VDL Group's knowledge center for e-mobility. As a result, the company has invested heavily in technology to enable the complex production of hybrid and electric buses at the site.
Today, the factory is at a turning point: more orders are coming in, especially from Dutch and Scandinavian customers. Last year, for example, the factory supplied 100 electric buses to the Amsterdam region, a contract of EUR 65 million. Flanders-based bus company De Lijn also recently ordered its first seven electric buses.
Due to the increasing demand for e-buses, which are twice as expensive as diesel buses at EUR 600,000 each, the turnover of the factory increased by 20% to EUR 117 million last year.
