Broadband takes the lead

The number of broadband internet connections in Belgium almost doubled in 2002, according to the annual report of the country’s Advisory Committee on Telecommunications.

The committee said that by the end of the year the number of broadband connections exceeded the number of narrow bandwidth connections, and added that the overall number of connections had risen 20% in total.

The number of GSM (mobile telephone) users showed a small increase on the previous year with a rise of just 5.7%. With sales penetration of some 80%, the figures showed some stagnation towards the end of the year.
