Broadband relatively cheap in Belgium

In comparison with many other European countries, the broadband market in Belgium is booming. In particular, there is already a high level of penetration in the field of domestic use.

Forrester Research recently showed that 10% of Belgian homes are equipped with broadband, either via the cable or via ADSL. This puts Belgium in an impressive third place in the European league table, behind Sweden (13%) and the Netherlands (12%).

Strong competition between Belgacom and Telenet has been a key factor in encouraging the greater availability of broadband services. As a result, broadband is available in almost every part of Belgium, whilst in many other countries there are whole regions with little or no access. Moreover, broadband is relatively cheap in Belgium – here the average cost of broadband internet is about 40 euro, whereas consumers in Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom are paying around 60 euro.
