Brabantia (NL) invests EUR 7.5 million in Overpelt, Flanders

Dutch manufacturer of household products Brabantia will be investing around EUR 7.5 million in its Flanders-based site in Overpelt. “The aim is to expand its production capacity and e-commerce activities,” says Production Director Marcel Van De Velde.

Growing e-commerce business
Since 1974, Brabantia has operated a factory in Overpelt, where it currently employs about 215 people. The upcoming investments will be spread over 3 years and mainly focus on the expansion of Brabantia’s e-commerce business. As such, the company had already invested more than EUR 1 million in its local distribution center. “Online sales are becoming an ever-bigger part of our overall sales activities, which is why we’re investing a considerable amount,” comments Van De Velde.

Iconic pedal trash can
Another major part of the investment – EUR 7.5 million in total – has much to do with Brabantia’s pedal trash can. The company’s trash can design has gained iconic status in the industry; around 2 million copies are produced every year. The Brabantia trash can has now received a technical update. To start producing the upgraded product, the company had previously invested over EUR 1.8 million in its Overpelt site.
