Biocartis (Flanders) to work closely with Fast-track Diagnostics (Luxembourg)

Based in Mechelen (Flanders), biotech company Biocartis has entered into a strategic alliance with its Luxembourg industry peer Fast-track diagnostics. Together, the two companies will be developing a series of tests for infectious diseases.

Fast-track Diagnostics develops ‘kits’ to detect numerous viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Meanwhile, Biocartis will bring its Idylla platform into the partnership. This is an automated system for molecular diagnostics based on PCF or Polymerase Chain Reaction. It can be used anywhere and anytime, delivering test results in only 35 to 150 minutes.

The companies will work closely to create a broad array of multiplex tests — thus allowing numerous results from one sample — for infectious diseases via the Idylla platform. With this initiative, Biocartis and Fast-track Diagnostics aim to develop a new approach to diagnose these diseases.

Most of today’s testing methods are quite time-consuming. This is because they only focus on detecting one or just a few pathogens that are presumably present in a patient’s sample.
