Various projects aiming to harness wind energy on the North Sea have already been scheduled. To define their role in these investment, engineering and construction plans, the North Sea countries have come to an agreement for a coordinated approach, resulting in the `North Sea Declaration’. The recently signed agreement offers investors legal security, encourages innovation and formalizes the role of Belgium and the other Benelux countries as a consultation platform.
In recent years, the many wind farm projects on the North Sea have transformed the area into a wind energy knowledge hub. Coupled with the new legal framework, this offers the opportunity to build the region into the “energetic Silicon Valley of Western Europe”, which would create new opportunities to tender on international projects for numerous companies in the area.
