Belgium in top three for DSL broadband

Belgium is now the world’s third-ranked country for penetration of broadband Internet based on DSL connections, according to the global industry organization DSL Forum, De Tijd newspaper reports.

DSL Forum figures from the first quarter of this year showed a rise to 73.4 million DSL lines worldwide, with South Korea and Taiwan in first and second places ahead of Belgium. The next quarter is expected to show yet another rise to 9.5 million.

Belgium’s penetration figure for the quarter was estimated at 16.7 per cent. Its neighbors, France and the Netherlands, both rose above 10% for the first time.
