Belgium in Europe’s Top 3 for broadband

With 14 broadband Internet connections per 100 people, Belgium held third place for broadband in the European Union last year, online news sources report.

The European Union’s 10th annual "European Electronic Communications Regulation and Markets 2004" placed Denmark first with 15.6 and the Netherlands second with 14.7 connections per 100 people.

The average for the EU’s 15 countries prior to enlargement was 7.6 per 100, and for the EU of 25 countries (after enlargement) 6.5 per 100. Growth of EU broadband connections in the two years between July 2002 and July 2004 reached 235%, moving from 8.8 to 29.6 million connections, the report said.
