Belgian chocolatier plans New York boutique

Pierre Marcolini, the Belgian chocolatier, is to open a boutique in Park Avenue, New York, adding to those already in Belgium, Japan, Paris and London, according to online news reports.

Initially an award-winning pastry chef, Pierre Marcolini is one of the few chocolate-makers who makes his own “couverture”, or pure chocolate, sourcing beans from Java, Ecuador, Venezuela, Madagascar and Mexico.

His first shop opened in Brussels in 1991. An English magazine has voted him “the God of Chocolate”.
