Belgian algorithm selected as new U.S. encryption standard
The U.S. Commerce Department selected an encryption algorithm developed by Belgian company Proton World International and by the University of Leuven as the nation's new encryption standard. The Belgian algorithm was chosen in the worldwide competition over submissions by IBM, Deutsche Telekom, NTT, and RSA. The new U.S. government encryption standard is expected to be widely adopted by the private sector as well.
