Aurelius (DE) acquires Offset division from Agfa (Flanders)

Headquartered in Beersel (Flanders), the multinational company Agfa-Gevaert is selling its Offset Solutions division to the German investment firm Aurelius for a total amount of EUR 92 million. The transaction is expected to be completed in early 2023. The 1,700 Offset employees are all moving to Aurelius.

A trip down memory lane

Offset Solutions is one of the oldest divisions of Agfa-Gevaert, which itself has been around for more than 150 years. The division produces printing plates and prepress technology for newspapers and money printers. 

After the sale of Offset Solutions, Agfa-Gevaert will consist of three parts: Healthcare ICT, Radiology and Digital Print. The first specializes in the processing and sharing of medical images, the second in X-ray equipment. Meanwhile, Digital Print builds printers for large paper sizes and supplies the related inks and software. 

The expected sale of the Offset Solutions division is a major step in our transformation. It will help us increase our focus on our growth businesses, which is crucial to our future success. After having examined all options, we believe that this transaction is the best possible solution for all stakeholders: the employees working in the division, the customers in the offset industry and our shareholders.

No stranger to Flanders

The buyer of Offset Solutions – German investment company Aurelius – is no stranger to Flanders. It previously sold a 60,000 m2 piece of land in Tessenderlo to Intervest Offices & Warehouses for EUR 30 million in 2022. Since 2019, the investment company is also the owner of BMC, one of the largest wholesalers of building materials in Flanders. In addition, Aurelius invested in Remi Claeys, a West Flanders-based producer of aluminum pipes.
