Aprojects to build a logistics center in Antwerp (Flanders)

Logistics services provider Aprojects is channeling EUR 10 million into the construction of a new logistics center at PSA’s general cargo terminal in Flanders, which is located in the Antwerp port area of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. “We want to offer a one-stop-shop concept.”

Cooperation agreement

The project is part of a collaboration between Aprojects, PSA Breakbulk and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. On 31 January 2023, a cooperation agreement was signed in the Diamond Lounge of Antwerp’s Bosuil soccer stadium. A symbolic location. “The idea for this cooperation originated during a soccer match at the stadium,” says Eric Clonen, CCO at Aprojects. “By constructing a new logistics hub in Antwerp, we want to offer a one-stop-shop concept for our international customers.”

Supporting chemical and hydrogen plants

Among other things, the new site will support the construction of petrochemical plants at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Aprojects will also provide services to American green hydrogen producer Plug, which is building a plant at the NextGen District in Antwerp. Components for their European green hydrogen production network, as well as components for a carbon-neutral transportation solution called Hyvia, will be shipped through the new Antwerp site from Aprojects’s warehouses in the US and China.

Sustainable and multimodal

The new logistics center includes two 8,000-square-meter warehouses connected through an overhang of some 4,000 square meters. The roof will be fully equipped with solar panels, and the site will also feature various green areas.

Moreover, the new site can rely on PSA Breakbulk’s heavy-lift infrastructure and is multimodally connected. A deep-sea quay belonging to PSA Breakbulk guarantees that the largest cargo ships will be able to reach the site, while a railroad enables a smooth connection to the European hinterland. “Ensuring carbon-neutral transport to top European destinations is a priority for us,” Clonen points out.
