5 foreign investors in Flanders in the running for trophy

Drumroll please… Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) has announced the 5 nominees for its 2020 Foreign Investment of the Year Trophy. The following foreign firms with activities in Flanders – Belgium’s northern region – are competing for gold: Barry Callebaut (Switzerland), DAF Trucks (Netherlands/US), Heyaru Engineering (Dubai/India), Hologic (US) and International Car Operators (Japan).

The stories behind the investments

Barry Callebaut (Switzerland)

To firmly anchor its local activities, chocolate leader Barry Callebaut is funneling EUR 100 million into the construction of a new distribution and logistics site in Lokeren. The huge complex will be home to the world’s biggest chocolate warehouse.

DAF Trucks (Netherlands/US)

Part of US-based PACCAR, Dutch firm DAF Trucks is channeling EUR 200 million into the expansion of its parts factory in Westerlo. As a result, the production capacity for truck cabins will be able to increase by no less than 45%, up to 300 cabins per day in a two-shift system.

Heyaru Engineering (Dubai/India)

Heyaru Engineering is constructing a large lab-grown diamond factory and research center in Lommel. Headquartered in Dubai and backed by Indian owners, the company’s investment puts it on the map as a growing player in Europe’s lab-grown diamond industry.

Hologic (US)

Hologic has inaugurated its first-ever Learning & Experience Center in Zaventem, which is part of a brand-new 4,000-square-meter facility. Patients from all over the world will benefit from the knowledge sharing that takes place there.

International Car Operators (Japan)

Japanese car transshipment leader International Car Operators (ICO) is expanding its hub for roll-on/roll-off goods at the Port of Zeebrugge. To accommodate the import of more than 3,000 e-cars every week, ICO is investing in its local terminal.
