Several large projects were initiated in 2015 to expand the inland waterway network of Flanders, including:
- Seine-Scheldt Project – the opening-up of the canals and logistical zones of Bossuit-Kortrijk and Roeselare-Lys.
- DistryCity Project – a research project examining how inland waterways play a role in urban logistics and distribution.
- Redevelopment of the Brownfield site of Willebroek-Noord – the strengthening of the logistical hotspot between Antwerp and Brussels.
- Terneuzen Lock Project – a collaboration between the Netherlans and Flanders aiming to improve shipping access to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal and the ports of Ghent and Terneuzen (North Sea Port).
