Update - de verspreiding van COVID-19 in Rusland en in Sint-Petersburg in het bijzonder

Looking at the recent developments of the fast spreading coronavirus, the situation has been changing quickly. Measures taken by the local authorities have become more and more drastic. As of 20 March, Russia reports 199 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country.

In Russia, we have a shutdown of all public events and conferences.

Russia has closed its borders. Foreigners are no longer admitted access to Russia. Within the last couple of weeks, foreigners in big cities have been obliged or recommended – depending on the location – to be on a 14-day self-quarantine after returning from certain countries associated with the risk. The list of such countries has constantly been growing.

Public life in Russia has changed a lot. Restaurants, bars, shopping malls report about reduced customer traffic. Parks, museums and theaters have been closed down since 18 March, 2020. The government of St. Petersburg recommends to avoid unnecessary travelling, whether abroad, within Russia or even within the city. This is not an obligation yet, rather a recommendation. Schools and universities are going to be closed for three weeks starting from tomorrow.

Things being as they are, many companies have put their staff on partial or full home office mode. There is no state of emergency in Russia by now. However, these measures may be introduced within the coming days.
