Umicore investeert in Polen

The investment is supported by the Polish government. It is worth 1.38 billion PLN. 90% of the new production will be exported worldwide. 

In 2020 in the city of Nysa the Belgian UMICORE will launch the production site for electrical vehicles batteries’ parts. The most important part for batteries will be produced in Poland. It will be the first such production facility in Europe and third in the world (after China and South Korea).

Umicore owns 59 production sites all around the world, including 24 in Europe. Umicore Group is present in Poland since 1996 (with the production of zinc-titanium sheets). Now the company decided to start the production of cathodes for lithium-ion batteries, which are used in i.e. automotive industry.

The official announcement of Umicore’s decision was attended by the Ministry of Enterpreneur and Technology, Mrs. Jadwiga Emilewicz, the President of the Board of Umicore, Mr. Marc Grynberg and the Ambassador of Belgium in Poland, Mr. Luc Jacobs.

The value of the investment is estimated to over 1,38 billion PLN. The new production firm will employ over 400 people. The production will start end of 2020 and will be accompanies with Umicore R&D global center.
