Online-evenement: PKN ORLEN plant de bouw van windmolenparken

PKN ORLEN is a leading player on the fuels and energy markets, and the largest company in Central and Eastern Europe, listed in prestigious global rankings such as Fortune Global 500, Platts TOP250 and Thompson Reuters TOP100. The ORLEN Group operates in 6 home markets – Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia and Canada.

PKN ORLEN’s plans to develop offshore wind power on the Baltic Sea offer substantial business opportunities for Polish companies. Investments in offshore wind farms will require a strong and efficient supply chain. Owing to conditions on the Baltic Sea, Poland’s geographical location as well as companies’ already declared readiness to become involved in a new business sector, offshore wind may represent a serious boost for Poland’s economy, as it comes with multi-billion investment projects and thousands of new jobs for skilled workers.

PKN ORLEN intends to build wind farms on the Baltic Sea with a substantial participation of local businesses, both acting as manufacturers of selected components and subcontractors of experienced foreign enterprises. Given the investment cost and a 25-year operating lifetime in extreme marine conditions, companies providing services and components for offshore wind farms have to meet very stringent quality requirements. Consequently, it is crucial for the industry and investors to cooperate in order to meet mutual expectations.

PKN ORLEN is the first oil and energy company in Central Europe to have declared a target of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050. By 2030, the company plans to reduce its CO2 emissions from currently held refining and petrochemical assets by 20%, and its CO2/MWh emissions from power generation by 33%. The construction of offshore wind farms – a project that’s currently at an advanced preparation stage – is a key investment for the Company from the perspective of achieving the declared targets.
