MAXIDOM, Russian DIY retailer, is taking over CASTORAMA Russia that announced plans to leave the market in December 2018. According to estimates, the deal with Kingfisher, Castorama’s parent company, is worth RUB 7,4 billion and was finalized on 30 September. This acquisition marks a new start for MAXIDOM that has been facing tough competition from LEROY MERLIN and PETROVICH.

LEROY MERLIN remains undisputed No. 1 DIY retailer in Russia. It is the most dynamic DIY chain. PETROVICH has consolidated the leading position in online trade, increasing its online share to 39% of the total sales. With this acquisition, MAXIDOM becomes third biggest DIY retailer in Russia. MAXIDOM is getting 18 DIY stores and can expand its sales area to new regions: Moscow region, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Samara, Saratov, Kazan, Perm, Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk. At the moment, the company operates 15 DIY stores located in 7 Russian regions.

So the consolidation of the Russian DIY market continues; strong big players outperform small ones.
