Intel opent zijn tweede R&D-kantoor in Nizhny Novgorod

Nizhny Novgorod, one of the largest industrial and economic areas of European Russia, was chosen by Intel (USA) to open a second office of its R&D unit since establishing its Scientific and Educational Centre in the region, one of the first in Russia, back in 2007. The main focus of the new office, employing 300 IT-professionals, is Intel’s key global projects in the fields of AI, machine vision, 5G, advanced research in the sector of microprocessor architectures, high-performance computing, and the Internet of things.

Nizhny Novgorod was chosen for Intel’s expansion in Russia because of its key position in the educational sector of the country, and as one of the nation’s largest hubs of the IT industry.  Intel’s two offices in Nizhny employ more than 50% of all of the IT giant’s engineering staff in Russia, while since the early 2000’s, the city is also home to a handful of large software developers, which employ a total of nearly 5.000 specialists.

Nizhny Novgorod (ca. 1.3 m inhabitants) is the 5th largest city of Russia and is the administrative centre of the Privolzhsky (Near-the-Volga river) Federal District of the country, located ca. 400 km east of Moscow. The District unites 14 regions and republics with 29.4 million inhabitants (Russia’s 20%), however holding only about 6% of the country’s territory. Industrial production, ICT and R&D, petrochemistry, heavy machine building, aerospace and shipbuilding, transport/logistics, food processing and tourism are the main economic sectors of the District.
